A man who entered the emergency room Friday afternoon at Encino Hospital Medical Center stabbed two nurses and a doctor before barricading himself in a room at the facility, police said. He was taken into custody a few hours later and sent to hospital with self-inflicted injuries.

Officers were called to the medical center on the 16200 block of Ventura Boulevard around 4 p.m. after reports of the attacks, Officer Jeff Lee said.
All three victims were found near the facility’s emergency room and were taken to Dignity Health Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where they were in stable condition, said Christina Zicklin, a spokeswoman for the center. By early evening, the area surrounding the center was cordoned off as SWAT teams worked to detain the suspect, who was barricaded near the emergency room. The first floor of the hospital and businesses adjacent to the center have been evacuated, according to Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton
The suspect, who was only identified as a man in his 30s, has had multiple run-ins with LAPD officers in the past, including assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, Hamilton said. At around 8 p.m., the man agreed with the negotiating teams to leave the room and was arrested by the police.
He was taken to hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries, Hamilton said.
Officials did not immediately provide information on the motive for Friday’s attack, but said the suspect “identified” as a patient when he entered the emergency room.
The medical center is a 150-bed community hospital staffed by 330 physicians and 420 professional support staff.
The stabbings come just days after another violent incident at a medical facility. On Wednesday, a man with an AR type rifle opened fire at a Tulsa doctor’s officekilling four people, including three staff members.
