American Healthcare Systems buys Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City


GRANITE CITY – The Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City is purchased by American Healthcare Systems (AHS).

On Friday, AHS, a national health system based in Los Angeles, announced that it had signed an asset purchase agreement to acquire the Granite City facility. The Gateway Regional Medical Center will join the growing AHS system of community hospitals, multi-specialty medical practices, outpatient clinics and home health services.

AHS has an extensive care network with Randolph Health Hospital in Asheboro, North Carolina and is currently in the process of purchasing South City Hospital in St. Louis

The transaction is expected to close on January 31, 2023, pending regulatory approvals.

Gateway Regional Medical Center is a 298-bed hospital with a 120-bed behavioral health unit. The center and its predecessors have served the Granite City area for over 100 years.
