DOH opens Ilocos Sur Medical Center in Candon

MANILA, Philippines – The Ilocos Region Department of Health (DOH) recently inaugurated the Ilocos Sur Medical Center (ISMC) in Candon City, approximately 250 kilometers north of Manila, opening a wing, which will serve infirmary until the inauguration of the establishment. early 2023.

The facility, located along Heroes ByPass Road in Candon’s Barangay Parioc Primero, will have the following amenities, according to a DOH press release:

  • 500 beds in total
  • 100 emergency beds
  • Ambulatory service
  • rehabilitation building
  • Dialysis building
  • Diet building
  • Administrative building and archives
  • maintenance building

Located on an 18,000 square meter plot, the hospital will serve patients from Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and Abra.

“The ISMC will transition to a Tier 1 hospital over the next month, and will finally be fully operational early next year as an end-of-referral hospital,” said DOH Regional Director Ilocos, Paula Paz Sydiongco, during the inauguration on October 7.

“This facility will also help decongest the Ilocos Regional Medical and Training Center (ITRMC) in the City of San Fernando and other healthcare facilities, as patients in need of specialized medical services will easily receive the medical assistance they need. need, including better and improved health services. It will soon be on par with the best hospitals in the country,” she added.

Created by Republic Act 11705, ISMC received total funding of 368.5 million pesos from 2018 to 2022 under the DOH Health Facility Improvement Program. Some 295 million pesos have been provided for hospital equipment.

At the start of its construction, it was still known as Candon City Hospital, a satellite of the Ilocos Regional Medical and Training Center (ITRMC).

“With the inclusion of CMHI in the healthcare system, we can strive to meet the challenge of the current pandemic and work towards achieving our universal healthcare goals,” Sydiongco said.

She also attributed the achievement of having this hospital in Ilocos Sur to the close working relationship between the regional DOH office and local governments. Sydiongco led the soft opening of the ISMC with the Mayor of the Town of Candon, Eric Singson. –
