Mountain Point Medical Center Just Introduced Robotic-Assisted Knee Surgery

Lehi, UT – Mountain Point Medical Center, a Steward Family Hospital, today announced that it has begun using a new surgical system to perform robotic-assisted knee revision surgeries to improve patient outcomes. The new state-of-the-art CORITM Surgical System will enable increased accuracy and improved accuracy in knee replacement procedures while reducing costs for Steward patients. The procedures will be performed by MPMC orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kevin Sagers, who is one of a handful of surgeons in the United States and the only one in Utah certified in robotic-assisted revision knee surgery.

“I am excited to take advantage of this new technology at Mountain Point Medical Center,” said Dr Kevin Sagers. “The CORITM Surgical System delivers greater precision and better outcomes, which means patients can recover faster and return to normal sooner. We pride ourselves on continuing to innovate at MPMC to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care every day.

The CORITM Surgical System does not require the preoperative CT imaging used by other platforms, saving costs and reducing radiation for patients. The platform also allows surgeons to use 3D modeling to develop unique surgical plans tailored to patient anatomy. This allows surgeons to perform more precise procedures than traditional knee replacement surgeries and helps patients keep more of their natural bones and ligaments intact.

In addition to performing robotic-assisted primary (or first-time) knee replacement surgeries, the CORI Surgical System is also the only system currently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in performing revision-or” redo” – knee prostheses. In cases where primary knee replacements need revision, the ability to generate a 3D model of the knee with sub-millimeter accuracy helps surgeons recreate more balanced and safer knees for patients.

“The introduction of this state-of-the-art system is the latest example of Mountain Point Medical Center’s commitment to bringing the highest quality patient care to our community,” said Kent Loosle, President of Mountain Point Medical Center. “Improving patient outcomes and reducing costs continue to be central to our mission and we are delighted to be able to leverage Dr. Sagers unique expertise as an orthopedic surgeon to achieve this with this new exciting FDA approved technology. ”
