Members of the community are invited to celebrate the grand opening of the new patient tower at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena during an open house on Friday, April 22, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A ribbon cutting with remarks will take place at noon: 45h
“We are all very excited that the opening of the new MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena patient tower has arrived,” said Chuck Sherwin, president of Alpena Medical Center. “The aim of this project was to meet the standards that our patients seek and deserve, ensuring that our facility is up to date for maximum safety and quality, and that we offer the latest cutting-edge technologies and the expertise of doctors. This is an important milestone in our history, and it was made possible through the support of MyMichigan Health, our donors, our employees, and the community. We are delighted to open the doors here in a few weeks so everyone can see this wonderful facility and meet the caring and dedicated staff who look after our patients.
Guests will be able to view many areas of the finished building, including one of 60 new private patient rooms, on self-guided tours. Guests will also be able to see the new medical center lobby and entrance, operating rooms, nursing stations, family waiting room, sterile treatment ward, intensive care unit, as well as new labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum outcomes. The 99,000 square foot patient tower took two years to complete and cost $63.5 million.
“Our intention with this project has been to create the best healing environment with consideration for future needs,” Sherwin continued. “Design, equipment and support for patient safety have been central to the project at every stage.”
