OakBend Medical Center Adds Breast Imaging Equipment | News

OakBend Medical Center recently announced the addition of the latest breast imaging equipment to its cancer surgery prevention program.

The device has a 98% rating for outlining and then removing most cancers and can be done in-house at OakBend without the need to travel to various facilities for exams, results, and then surgery, if needed.

Dr. Steven M. Thomas, who has practiced in the West Houston area for more than 30 years, oversees the advanced program. The primary focus of her practice has been general surgery including but not limited to abdominal procedures, breast cancer, hernias and gallbladder surgery. He performs many laparoscopic abdominal surgeries such as removal of gallbladder, appendix, colon and spleen, as well as hernia repair. He is also trained in robotic surgery.

“Now our community can accomplish everything it needs in one easy place,” said CEO Joe Freudenberger. “We are honored to have such an experienced surgeon who knows our community well and is highly skilled in cancer prevention.”

In addition to being board certified and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Thomas has served on the board of directors and served as chief of staff at West Houston Medical Center. Being honored as Doctor of the Year, Opus Champion, and multiple times as Houston Top Doc are among his many awards and accomplishments.
