OTTAWA – An Ottawa nurse with a long career at the OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center has received the organization’s DAISY award. The program recognizes the extraordinary clinical skills and compassionate care of nurses at OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center. Dawn Walker of Ottawa is a Registered Nurse in Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Oncology and has worked for over 24 years at OSF Saint Elizabeth.
“We truly appreciate the compassionate care that RNs provide every day, and the DAISY Award is a way to recognize these dedicated individuals,” said Heather Bomstad, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer of OSF Saint Elizabeth.
Walker’s nominations included, “I would like to thank Dawn for spending more time taking the best care of the emotional needs of a biopsy patient last week. Our patient was not concerned about her procedure, but she arrived quite upset as she was mourning the loss of her husband. Dawn had the most comforting and encouraging things to say to the patient, and it was exactly what she needed to hear. I’m sure the comfort she received from Dawn will carry her through the difficult days ahead.
The DAISY reward program can be found at over 2,000 healthcare facilities in all 50 states and 14 other countries. OSF HealthCare encourages patients, family members and colleagues to recognize caregivers who have provided exceptional care and service by nominating them for an award in honor of their dedication.
