Silver Cross Hospital Plans Medical Center in Orland Ridge Subdivision – Chicago Tribune

Silver Cross Hospital plans to build an approximately 65,000 square foot facility in Orland Park that would provide outpatient services, according to the hospital and Mayor Keith Pekau.

The building is believed to be in Orland Ridge, a development of nearly 300 townhouses and townhouses underway at the northeast corner of La Grange Road and 171st Street, according to Pekau.

A hospital spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday that Silver Cross intended to construct a building that would provide outpatient care and offices for doctors in various specialties, but the hospital was not disclosing more than details, such as when construction might begin.

Pekau mentioned the plan at Monday’s village council meeting, but said Silver Cross has yet to submit a proposal. Pekau was unavailable Tuesday for further comment regarding the plans.

In addition to its main hospital in New Lenox, Silver Cross operates medical centers in Homer Glen, Mokena and New Lenox.

Separately, Orland Park is seeking to annex approximately 6 acres at the northwest corner of 179th Street and Wolf Road, where an Aldi grocery store is planned.

Where Silver Cross is looking to build, in Orland Ridge, construction is progressing on 190 townhouses and 104 semi-detached villas on land that several years ago was planned as the site of a hospital, but not by Silver Cross .

The nearly 60-acre site is intended to include a commercial development, possibly including a restaurant and hotel, with that space carved out for land overlooking La Grange north of 171st Street.

Bordering Orland Hills to the east and Tinley Park to the south, the property was annexed to Orland Park in 1999.

In the mid-2000s, state regulators rejected a proposal by the parent company of what was then St. Francis Hospital and Health Center at Blue Island, later MetroSouth Medical Center, to spend nearly $200 million to build a 130-bed hospital on the site. MetroSouth has since closed.

The Silver Cross project would be just north of where Loyola Medicine is investing more than $69 million in a 72,000 square foot outpatient center in Tinley Park, on the southeast corner of La Grange and the 179th street.

The two-story building directly west of Moraine Valley Community College’s satellite campus in Tinley Park is set to open next year and would provide primary and specialty care in areas including orthopedic surgery, oncology , cardiology, pulmonary medicine and urology.

A public hearing on the proposed annexation of the property on which Aldi wants to build in Orland Park was held on Monday, without any comment from administrators or the public.

Formal approval of annexation as well as approval of building plans would come in later meetings.

Aldi is offering a 20,500 square foot store on the site and it would be the second Orland Park location for the chain, which has a store on the southeast corner of La Grange and 131st Street.

The new store would be near a shopping center that includes a Jewel grocery store and an Osco pharmacy.

Aldi also has stores in Orland Hills and Tinley Park.
