Strengthen medical structures, health must be the priority


BHOPAL (Madhya Pradesh): President Ram Nath Kovind said that India is known as the hub of medical tourism in the world due to its affordable medical facilities. Therefore, the priority should be health, as strengthening medical facilities will attract more medical tourists to the country, he added.

He was addressing a ceremony held to dedicate the medical institutes and centers and the upgrading of medical facilities in the district hospitals at the Motilal Stadium here on Saturday evening.

Speaking further, he said: For a bedridden patient, a doctor and a nurse are next to God. And if the doctor behaves sympathetically with the patient, his behavior is as good as medicine.

Doctors are responsible people. But they are also human beings. Patients, family members start misbehaving with doctors because of their petty mistakes. Family members need to be patient and need to realize this, the president added.

He added that Dr. Leela Joshi, after retiring from the railways, worked at Ratlam. Dr. Leela Joshi is a gynecologist and social worker known for her work with tribal women and adolescent girls with anemia in Ratlam district. Dr. Joshi received Padma Shri in 2020. She set an example for others.

He added: Health is our top priority. We faced the brunt of Covid. We have managed to manage Covid in large measure thanks to efforts from all sides. So we need to strengthen the medical facilities in the country. It is good that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has focused on education as well as health in the state.

President Ram Nath Kovind has virtually performed bhumi pujan for eight urban health institutes. He has also performed bhumi pujan for the Regional Institute of Lung Diseases, Center of Excellence in Orthopedics, Blood Bank and Office of Medical Superintendent. All are located at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal. The president also dedicated hospital buildings in four districts to the occasion.
